Our goal in physical education is to have the individual students become physically educated through developmentally and instructionally appropriate programs.  Emphasis is placed on personal growth rather than on comparison to others.  Cooperation, sportsmanship, self-discipline, respect and kindness towards others and self, and effort are stressed in all physical activities.  The program promotes health lifestyles, physical fitness and wholesome values.  The program also helps to develop skills in following directions and accepting others and their abilities.  But most importantly, the department promotes FUN!

There are PE classes for Pre-K through 5th grade.  The department also runs a swimming program for these grades.  An after school Intramural Program is offered for boys and girls in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, and includes such activities as Flag Football, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, Scooter Polo, and Quaker Ball.

The middle school PE program consists of elective sport activities that encompass competitive sports and/or cooperative sports and/or lifestyle sports.  Each term, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades have a choice to elect between either 2 or 3 different sports to take for that term.  The sports are either competitive (against other schools) or cooperative (with their own classmates) sports.  The competitive sports include Soccer, Basketball, Softball, and Tennis.  The cooperative sports include Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Archery, Volleyball, Bowling, and Roller Blade Hockey

The following community resources are utilized to enhance our program: Sproul Lanes Bowling Center, the Middletown Archery Club Center, Cherry Street field (which is used for soccer and softball games, Flag Football and Frisbee and all outdoor intramural activities), Delaware County Community Tennis Courts, Smedly Park for other activities like Capture the Flag and Snow Sledding, Media Youth Center Gymnasium, as well as the school's own playground and gymnasium.

The School Mascot

The Dragon was adopted in the fall of 1998 as the School mascot.  The dragon "is STRONG and ENCOURAGING.  We do NOT think that the dragon is a violent beast, but a BRIGHT, PROMISING and HEARTENING being.  We also think that it will MOTIVATE the students at MPFS.  We strongly believe that the dragon is a magical creature, and will bring LUCK and FAITH not just to our sports team, but to our whole school."  From the winning mascot proposal of MPFS alumnae Lexi and Cristina.
