Opening the Window to Creativity at MPFS: Dramatic Arts

Posted On: 3/7/2017 11:52 AM

With (as always) our students in mind, we have launched a social media campaign in support of our arts programs and of our vision of integrated arts education. For the next 40 days, supporters of MPFS, the arts, and primary education can contribute online via our Give Campus: The Arts at MPFS donation page to help us purchase tools and technologies from a wish list developed thoughtfully by T. Karen, T. Stefanie, and T. Donna. We've already raised $5,861 toward our $25,000 goal! After the campaign, will continue to fund this initiative through a fun and lively paddle raise at our Spring Auction on Friday, April 21.

To keep you informed, each week, we'll post a news installment addressing our mission and our wish list within one arts discipline or focus. You can find tips to help spread the word about this campaign on the Fund the Arts at MPFS page of the Support section of our website. Thank you in advance for your support and for encouraging others to Be-Friend us!

The Social Room, equipped with a small theatrical stage, is a central and important space in our school. It is used for all types of formal assembly: lectures, award ceremonies, dramatic plays, musical theatre productions, movies, Skyping with other schools/places, school board meetings, and musical performances. These varied events place a range of demands on the room. For all events, it is essential that everyone in the room hear, clearly and enjoyably, everything that is presented. This is the goal of augmented acoustical design for our space.

The acoustical design of the Social room is different than that of any other school space because of the specific demands of its usage for the performing arts. The social room will provide many students their first introduction to performing arts, both as audiences and as performers. We would like for this introduction to be a positive one, and we strive to provide a space that is highly functional, artistically flexible, easy-to-use, and satisfying for performers and audiences.

Dramatic theatre productions rely on clear and easy intelligibility of actors’ speech and a natural connection with the audience. Since the space is not designed to have this occur through natural acoustics we must augment it with great sound devices and augmentation of our current systems and design. The wish list for the Dramatic Arts reflects those improvements.
