Small Actions, Big Impact: Announcing Our 2026 STEAM Theme

For 2026, Media-Providence Friends School is proud to announce our school-wide STEAM theme: Stewardship: Innovations for a Sustainable Future. At MPFS, stewardship is a core Friends testimony, calling us to the careful and responsible management of the world entrusted to our care.

From Awareness to Innovation Moving beyond identifying environmental challenges, our students are focusing on the power of innovation to create solutions. From Preschool through Grade 8, our community will engage in hands-on projects such as:

  • Water Filtration & Conservation: Students in K-2nd grade will build simple filters to see how nature cleans water, connecting this process to our campus rain garden.

  • Combatting Microplastics: Middle School students will engage in "Do Your Bit" UN Global Challenges and engineering lessons focused on microplastic reduction.

  • Sustainable Agriculture: Students will explore carbon sequestering through "The Great Algae Race," vertical farming, and aeroponics.

  • The "Recycle Write" Initiative: A school-wide effort to recycle writing tools like markers and crayons in partnership with Staples.

The Intersection of Stewardship and JEDI Sustainability is a matter of justice. Through our JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) programming, students will examine the "Gift Economy" and "Radical Hospitality"—learning how to ensure equitable access to a clean environment for everyone. We are also proud to host a School-Wide Food Drive benefiting Broad Street Love, with a goal of collecting 127 items—one for every student.

Join Us for STEAM Week Our yearlong exploration culminates in an intensive STEAM Week (April 13–17). Join us for our Public Showcase on April 22 to see our students’ project-based solutions.
